Exactly...you have a few guests that you chat with about their current projects and a band or singer and thats the hour.

Your excuse for not having ANDREA BOCELLI on is that no one has handed you the latest Bush joke yet?

You cannot have people coming on TV and talk like if they are at the pub with friends. Every minute costs a fortune and there has to be a format. There are many articles on the Net you can read to understand the current situation.

I disagree (repectfully of course) with your statement. Johnny Carson had great success with just such a format. Now that does not mean that I am against the striking writers as the pie has always been cut too heavily in the performers favor but the immediate panic and showing of reruns after one day is in my opinion a bit silly. Its like writing a song. Verse, chorus, verse, middle eight, verse, chorus. The structure is already there...

Why it is all this fuss about? Because Andrea is not going to appear on the Jay Leno Late Late Show? Maybe the fans can try to approach the head of the scriptwriters Union and ask him for an exception... Maybe he/she is also a fan of Andrea's...

And do you think that the Johnny Carson show didn't have a scriptwriter? That just because he was JC he could seat there and talk as long as he wanted and about any topic he came to his mind at that moment? Com'on Parish... you know better thant that. Every second on TV is 'programmed'. If I am not mistaken, in the past someone complained about Andrea being cut in the middle of a sentence... Why was that? Because of time... and not because they were rude. Even if the TV station already had everything ready for the Jay Leno with Andrea show, as soon as the scriptwrites started their strike, they couldn't use the material. Is that simple... Unions, Unions... hellooooo!!!

Nellie (with all due respect, of course:) :)

Woah Nellie!

I understand and agree with everything you have said Wsider, really. Money ru(i)ns everything. My point was that gun to your head you could put a show on if you were clever enough to think on your feet. If it was an hour show and 45 minutes ofthat were taken up by commercials and actual performance or latest effort conversation ( new movie, book, record ) then as the host you would have to come up with only ten minutes of topical banter. These guys did hour long shows when they were doing standup...now 10 minutes is an impossible task without a cue card?

It seems that some of these guys want to show their support for the writers. Here are a couple of articles that might help to explain what is going on.

Hollywood Writers Get Support From Celebrities on Picket Lines

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Jay Leno rolled up to a picket line on his motorcycle with doughnuts for striking writers at NBC....

And Leno is not the only one. Even the great Johnny Carson was affected by a writer's strike:

Writers strike: Late night without Letterman, Leno

By Gary Levin, USA TODAY
Comedy is the first casualty of the Hollywood writers' strike.
Late-night satire — a source of news for young audiences — was silenced in Day 1 of the walkout Monday. Felled, at least temporarily: David Letterman, Jay Leno, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and Conan O'Brien, among others....

...The last strike, which lasted 22 weeks in 1988, kept Johnny Carson off the air for 10 weeks and saw Letterman's routines rest for four months; each returned with his own ad-libbed material.

Too bad Andrea's appearance was affected, but maybe something else will come along.

Thanks for those Gloria, I have friend who works on the Conan O'Brien show although I have not heard from him regarding this. I understand that many are affected by this and that the subject of fair pay is extremely convoluted, but couldnt they have coordinated the strike for after Andrea's appearance? :)

I mean, It all seems so unfair.....to us!

Me? complaining? No, you got me all wrong. I'm in bed waaaay before Leno is on anyway. I just like to stir the conversation pot to see what surfaces.

She is from France... a wonderful fan and friend. She just complains because Andrea hasn't been in France for such a long time and I don't blame her. Even the release of Vivere is scheduled for a late date... But, you know that it is not Andrea's fault but the distributors'... We are very lucky to have him visiting us so often. :sunny:

P.S. There is our dear Francesca! Parish, you can use the translator at the bottom of this page to understand what Francesca is saying... I am sure you know how to use it. :)

Francesca, I am laughing so hard that my beautiful eyelashes are falling off...

Just for the info, Francesco Rinaldi is the brand of a very popular pasta sauce.

To clarify this situation, Parish means source when he says sauce. He is just playing with words...

Wsider and Francesca,

I see that puns aren't really a good idea on an international board as many things get lost in translation.

I feel just like Bill Murray...
