Does anybody now if its possible to buy tickets for this performance? I gave my father tickets to go to the Andrea Chenier-show for his 50th birthday, but as you'll will know that's cancelled. I've tried to call the theater, but they don't seem to speak any English and do not react on e-mails...

I phoned the Teatro last Saturday and the man told me tickets will go on sale 15th April. ( I spoke Italian, was very pleased with myself !)
I also read somewhere that tickets for Andrea Chenier could be exhanged, but can't think where now and they gave an email address. It may have been on the Teatro website.
I am currently in Holland, so cannot do very much

How did you manage to get a ticket for Andrea Chenier Eyeopener, just out of interest ?

I think you misunderstand me, I gave the tickets to my dad before buying them(a bit optimistic perhaps..). I'll try to e-mail the theatre again, hopefullly they will response.

If they go on sale the 15th of April it might be a bit of a problem to, my dad lives in Ecuador and need to arrange tickets and the stay.

Francesca, where there is a will, there is a way. Besides, it is a weekend. Maybe for people overseas will be difficult, but being in Europe is just matter of taking one of those cheap flights, or the train. Hotel reservations could be made way in advance too, if you had the intention to attend. Lack of optimism (or too much negativism) can make people's life miserable.

Thanks for informing us Francesca, I certainly will try to get two tickets on de 18th of April. Hopefully it'll be a little less difficult to get in contact with the theatre or ticketing organisation then.

I don't blame you.! I rather go to Venice than Catania... The first time I went to Venice was from Frankfurt and by train. Took forever but, as you say, it was impossible to get a decent airfare at the last minute. It was a birthday present from my brother, so I didn't have too much saying in the matter... He just decided to ship me with my sister-in-law there... and I will remain grateful to him for the rest of my life! :) I am sure Andrea will perform in Italy again... at least we know that the concert at Teatro del Silenzio will hopefully take place again this year.

I must say it was truly frustrating to find out about the Chenier tickets. I emailed the theatre about 3 times, in English and Italian, but never received a reply! (Come on, my Italian couldn't be that bad! :( ) Then my Italian friend here (in Sydney) rang the theatre but the person in charge was not there, then she asked her friend's friend who lives in Catania to find out. According to him the 19th Apr performance was for members only and also tickets cannot be bought online! I got absolutely confused and panicked as I couldn't change the dates of stay. (I had already booked the air tickets and accommodation) So I decided to buy it from one of the ticket websites. Believe me, I don't usually take this kind of risk, I am a careful person, but when it comes to Andrea, we all become a bit mad... do you agree? Anyway, after finding out the concert's been cancelled, I contacted the site asking for a refund. They said "It's your responsibility to negotiate with the organiser"!! So I said "But I don't have the ticket yet! How do you expect me to negotiate without a ticket?" After that, they completely ignored me. So I had to contact the chamber of commerce and also a consumer protection authority in the Netherlands (where the ticket seller is). They were prompt in replying but couldn't do much to help me. I also contacted the Visa dispute section (I paid for the ticket with VISA) and they were quite willing to investigate and give me a compensation. Then suddenly, the ticket seller emailed me saying "I think we made a mistake. Perhaps we can offer a ticket for another concert?" so I declined and demanded the money!! After a few days, I did get the money back. Sorry it's a long story but I thought I'd better warn everyone. It's something I didn't need after the bad news of cancellation. Anyway, I'm still going to Catania just for sightseeing and well... eating!!

How frustrating for you, Chouchou. I'd be steaming mad too. When you get news of a concert, of course you want to act on it quickly to make sure you get tickets at all. And, of course, you can't wait too long to book a flight unless you want to pay a fortune. I hope this type of thing doesn't happen too often.

Glad to hear you're going to try to make the best of it...enjoy your trip to Italy.

Thank you, Brittany and Tesora!
I must add that this ticket seller kept advertising the concert for weeks AFTER I told them it's been cancelled!! I am sure many others had to go through what I went through. Anyway, I'm looking forward to some seafood feast in Sicily now!

I'm glad you followed it up and got your money back Chouchou - I hate ticketsellers that try to take advantage of people like that!

Enjoy your trip!

The man at the Teatro ticket office told me tickets would go on sale 15th April, so I am hoping to buy some.
As I have booked my flights and accomodation I am hoping he was not telling me lies.....

Thanks, Michelle. Yes.. I am now determined to enjoy Sicily!

Carolina, No, I can't see any point as I can't stay there until May... I hope you'll have no problem. :)

Francesca, oui, I was quite disappointed with the way the theatre handled (or not handled!) things. Even their instructions for buying ticket online were so complicated, it was one of the reasons I went to the other seller.

I saw that Chouchou, but thanks for posting it on here.
If I read it correctly it says that tickets are for sale to the rest of the public from 18th April.,

Someone correct me if I am wrong ?
