[Brisa]

I really like this poem very much since the first time I read it. An old and wise man told me about it some years ago and I never forgot the message in it. I don´t know why, but today I remembered the poem and I want to share it with you.



IF.....
(KIPLING)

IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

Si hablas con el pueblo, y guardas tu virtud,

Si marchas junto a Reyes con tu paso y tu luz.

Si nadie que te hiera, llega a hacerte la herida.

Si todos te reclaman y ni uno te precisa

Si llenas el minuto inolvidable y cierto,

de sesenta segundos que te lleven al cielo...

Thank you, Brisa. This is a famous poem which most American children have to memorize in grammar school. It is a lesson well-learned.

when I saw the title of this post .. it brought to mind a song, titled *If*, sung by the group Bread.

.. here are the lyrics:

I never heard this song. If seems to have different meaning to each one.
It´s nice and interesting how a simple words unleashe a storm of memories in our brains. Sometimes a name, sometimes a scent reminds me a lots of things and it is like a journey in time.

Estaba segura de que me ibas a decir eso Jezabel!!!!!!
La verdad es que tengo muchas cosas escritas pero nunca las compartí.
Para mí tienen valor desde lo personal. no creo que tengan ningún valor literariamente hablando, pero tal vez algún día tome coraje y lo deje acá no como arte sino como una expresión de sentimientos de algún estado de ánimo o momentos de mi vida.

....Y yo estaba segura que vos ibas a estar segura BRISA.
En verdad me gustaria leer un poema o una prosa escrita por vos, ademas ¿quien evalua el peso literario?, ¿porque pensas que no puede ser interesante?. Creo que el arte engloba todo un mundo de expresiones y sentimientos humanos, bastante dificil de clasificar a veces. Eso creo.
Pero bueno sera lo que quieras que sea, ya sabes, nos estamos contactando.
