- What is that lullaby?
Is that mother’s voice
From a distant childhood singing?
- No, it’s just a foamy tide
running on the shore.
- What is that lament?
Is that a violin with all the strings crying?
- No, it’s just the autumn wind
Moaning in a minor duet with night.
- What is that trill?
Is that a flute playing it’s part,
While the orchestra’s waiting in silence?
- No, it’s a lark saluting the sunrise,
While all the nature awakes and fills with sounds.
- What is that jingling?
Is that the bells tinkling
For the festive service?
- No, it’s laugh of kids
Opening their Christmas presents.
- What is this choral?
Perhaps it’s angels singing from Heaven,
Glorifying all God’s creation?
- Oh, no! It is my heart beating
