Well......it was brilliant !

He sang 16 songs in the programme, which was in 2 halves, and did 3 encores.
The first half was older songs starting with the composer Caccini and ending with Verdi, and the second half songs were from Sentimento.

Just a stage, a piano with Carlo Bernini behind it and Andrea standing next to it. All very simple, elegant and very beautiful.

Andrea singing and Carlo on the piano...I am still not down to earth.
One moment of silence, someone started to sing HAPPY BIRTHDAY and we all sang. Andrea was surprised!!!
Great, brilliant concert.

This is very interesting Caroline and Annacelli. Brilliant is exactly the word that came to my mind for this concert too! And elegantly romantic and supremely sweet. It was the perfect repertoire for Andrea, and he swept the crowd off their collective feet! I doubt that the venerable Staatsoper has ever heard such an outpouring of affection. And I'm willing to bet that there has never been a "Happy Birthday" serenade, so Andrea set a precedent here.

As always, I am working on a fan report for Bo.de. But this time I have some important personal commitments that take precedence. So it may not be ready for a few days. I ask your patience, but it will come. This moment in Andrea's career was a historic one, and I hope to do it justice. What a privilege it was to share this with both Andrea and Carlo!! Beati noi!!!

What a night to remember and very many thanks to you Carolina for making it possible with your spare tickets.

I've been lucky enough to see Andrea in Britain and Malta but nothing could have prepared me for the magic os seeing him in such a beautiful setting with just Carlo at the piano. He sang so beautifully and it was soon obvious that the audience appreciated him. The greatest singers in the world have appeared on that stage and now Andrea has joined them and received a standing ovation - what could be more wonderful for him or for his fans. It was magical and I'm so grateful I was there to see his success and join in the celebration.

I was worried at first because the man in the box next to me seemed to spend more time watching the audience and writing notes than taking an interest in Andrea (a critic perhaps?) but after a while he joined in the applause and laughed when we all sang 'happy birthday' to Andrea and flowers were thrown. At the end he stood clapping for the three encores so all was well.

Cheers Gill

But you can't just log in. Do you need to pay, or work for a newspaper or something ?

All of the above, Caroline. It is the same as of Getty Images. Here is the explanation:

"Canto alla vita alla sua bellezza ad ogni sua ferita ogni sua carezza..."

"I sing to life, to its beauty, to each of its wounds and each of its caresses..."

Super report as always, Cami! Thanks for all the time and energy it must have taken to bring this event to all of us who couldn't be there. I hope there will be more like this in the future--maybe here in the US. I would love to hear just Andrea and Carlo! Thanks to all of you for your contributions! :)

Thank you so very much Cami, for capturing it all and conveying it to us so beautifully.
I am amazed at all the details you remember, incredible!

I hope Andrea gets your report read out to him and perhaps it will convince him to record some of that material....with the imcomparable Carlo, of course.
