Nicoletta Mantovani, Luciano Pavarotti's widow, accepted an Italian government prize given to the late tenor just before his death in early September. The ceremony for the Premio per l'Eccellenza nella Cultura Italiana (Prize for Excellence in Italian Culture) took place yesterday in Modena, Pavarotti's hometown. I am overcome with gratitude and emotion at this prize which will celebrate the magic of a life spent in art, and will open doors for the young."
